About Tiago
Tiago Julião Neves is the new Director of Business Development at GWEC’s Global Grids Initiative. He brings 26 years of experience advising governments, corporates, investment funds, philanthropies, and startups across Europe and Africa on clean energy, electric mobility, water services, and impact investment.
Before joining GWEC, Tiago was VP of Investor Relations for an impact investment platform. His previous roles include advisor to The Rockefeller Foundation and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), Power Africa Regional Advisor for West Africa within the Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative (AGI), and cabinet advisor to Portugal’s Minister of Economy and Energy Secretary. He has also served as an independent advisor to investment funds, industrial associations, and startups.
Tiago holds an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, a Postgraduate degree in Public Regulation and Competition from Coimbra Law School, and a BSc in Economics from Nova SBE. Prior to joining the government in 2009, he was a PhD researcher at the London School of Economics (LSE). He is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and speaks intermediate French and Italian. He is based at GWEC's headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
