Global Wind Day
A worldwide celebration of wind energy and the people driving the energy transition
Since 2007, Global Wind Day has brought together communities, industry leaders, governments and campaigners across the world to celebrate wind energy – a clean, cost-effective and homegrown power source transforming our global energy system.
Each year on 15 June, events and campaigns highlight the benefits of wind energy and call for greater ambition to scale up deployment. From open days at wind farms to community events, exhibitions, educational workshops and digital campaigns, Global Wind Day is a reminder that wind energy is already delivering clean power, creating jobs and contributing to a more sustainable and secure future.
Why Wind Matters

Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing sources of electricity globally – and for good reason:
- Powering the energy transition: Wind power is a cornerstone of the shift away from fossil fuels. It is now among the cheapest sources of new electricity in many markets, enabling countries to decarbonise their grids rapidly and affordably.
- Strengthening global energy security: By reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels, wind energy boosts energy independence and shields economies from volatile global markets and geopolitical shocks.
- Accelerating climate action: To meet the Paris Agreement targets and limit global warming to 1.5°C, we must triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. Wind energy will provide the bulk of this new capacity.
A Global Call To Action
As climate impacts intensify and the need for secure, clean energy becomes more urgent, Global Wind Day is not just a celebration – it’s a call to action.
We must accelerate the deployment of wind energy worldwide by removing barriers to permitting, investing in resilient supply chains, and ensuring the right market frameworks are in place to unlock private investment.
Join us on 15 June to celebrate the power of wind and help push for a cleaner, fairer energy future.
