Our Vision
Floating wind now stands at an inflection point. Industry has already invested billions to bring the technology to the threshold of large-scale commercial projects, while governments have set strong targets. However, the build-out of floating wind projects is not yet matching this ambition, with policy uncertainty and delays to planned auctions testing the commitment of developers and suppliers and limiting investment in supply chains.
The Floating Wind Industry Accelerator has been established to help convert two decades of hard-won progress into a commercial industry. Convened by GWEC, the Accelerator brings together developers, manufacturers, suppliers, financiers, insurers, technical experts and wind associations from around the world to drive coordinated action across the global floating wind value chain.
Focus on Floating
The Accelerator will focus on supporting the first-mover projects to achieve successful Final Investment Decisions before 2030 and strengthening the sector for successful scaling in the 2030s and beyond. It will address the key barriers to commercialisation by strengthening bankability and risk allocation, enabling more predictable deployment pathways, reducing development risk, and supporting resilient supply chains through greater cross-border cooperation, standardisation and trade facilitation.
The Accelerator will also work with governments and strategic institutions to establish the stable demand, enabling infrastructure and policy frameworks needed to attract private investment in factories, ports, vessels and skilled workforce. Its first major output, the Action Statement – Unleashing the Next Wave of Offshore Wind Development, will set out industry's shared commitment to making commercial-scale floating wind viable, scalable and investable, and call for coordinated action from governments and industry.
