The Global Wind Energy Council

What does GWEC do?

The Global Wind Energy Council, known as GWEC, is a member-based organisation that represents the entire wind energy sector. The members of GWEC represent over 1,500 companies, organisations and institutions in more than 80 countries, including manufacturers, developers, component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, electricity providers, finance and insurance companies.

Our network includes the leading turbine manufacturers, developers, suppliers, and service providers from every corner of the globe.

Our members are also all of the national wind industry trade associations, from both established and emerging markets, including the world largest markets of the United States, all the European markets, India and China.

By collaborating across borders and regions, we aim to foster a cleaner, greener future powered by wind energy.

GWEC works at the highest international political level to create a better policy environment for wind power. GWEC members are active all over the world, educating local and national governments as well as international agencies on the benefits of wind power to advocate new policies and help wind power reach its full potential in as markets as possible.

What we do

Our mission

Our mission is to ensure that wind power fulfils its role as one the key technology solutions to today’s energy and climate challenges, forming the backbone of a new clean energy system and enabling trillions of dollars of investment while providing substantial economic and social benefits.

  • Our mandate from our members is to communicate the benefits of wind power – to national governments, policy makers and international institutions.
  • We provide authoritative research and analysis on the wind power industry to countries all over the world.
  • We work with governments to give them transparent information about the benefits and potential of wind power, enabling them to make informed decisions about national energy policies.
  • We support collaboration between policy makers in different countries to help them share best practices and experiences in adding clean power to their energy mix.

GWEC acts as a global voice of the wind industry to unlock the potential of wind energy as a critical solution to the energy transition by working with governments, investors, and communities worldwide.
