Wind is integral to countries meeting their climate and energy security goals. It delivers a future-proof, just, and secure energy system.

  • Energy independence

  • Price stability

  • Protection from fossil fuel shocks

As the global voice of the wind industry, GWEC engages with policymakers, business leaders, civil society and other stakeholders to ensure wind energy is central to climate dialogue and implementation of the clean energy era.

Key Facts

Wind powers 500 Million Homes Worldwide [+]

Wind currently supplies 8% of global electricity generation, but under a net zero by 2050 scenario, will supply one-fifth of the world's electricity.

Wind provides 1.5 Million Direct Jobs Worldwide [+]

Wind is helping economies grow. It already provides 1.5 million direct jobs worldwide and 2024 was another record year for wind deployment, with BNEF showing a record $39 billion in wind investment this year alone.

A GWEC/GWO Workforce Report 2024 projects more than 500,000 wind technicians alone will be needed by 2028. Read the report here.

Wind Is Cheaper Than Fossil Fuel Alternatives [+]

91% of new renewable projects now cheaper than fossil fuels alternatives and onshore wind projects are the cheapest of any renewable technology, at 53% cheaper.

Onshore wind remained the most affordable source of new renewable electricity at USD 0.034/kWh (solar PV at USD 0.043/kWh).

Ambition To Implementation: GWEC’s COP30 Reports

Guiding the Global Wind Industry from Targets to Implementation

At COP30, GWEC will launch a series of strategic reports providing governments, investors, and industry leaders with clear, actionable roadmaps to accelerate wind energy deployment.
Each report translates climate ambition into practical steps from policy reform and permitting to finance, supply chains, and green industrialisation.

Together, these reports form GWEC’s roadmap for implementation: a unified blueprint showing policymakers, developers, and investors how to expand wind energy as part of a sustainable and secure energy transition.

Check Out Our Action Plan As Part Of  The Global Renewables Hub HERE.

In the Blue Zone of COP30, the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) will host the Global Renewables Hub –  a platform for collaboration, innovation, and delivery.

Over 40 events across two weeks will spotlight solutions and action to achieve the global target to ‘Double Down, Triple Up‘ by 2030. Bringing together governments, industry, investors, and civil society, the Hub will turn ambition into implementation.
