Vestas took advantage of a change in wind conditions overnight to install all three blades on the V164-8.0 MW prototype between 13-14 January at the Danish National Test Center at Østerild.
The process was smooth and each blade took approximately three hours to install. Additional work is required in order to prepare the turbine for commissioning, which is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Facts about the blades and the turbine:
- The 80m blade is the longest ever manufactured by Vestas.
- Each blade weighs approximately 35 tonnes and the diameter of the root is 4.6m.
- The rotor diameter of 164m is larger than the London Eye (135m).
