Brazilian wind energy in numbers

In the first quarter of 2014, 34 new wind farms were installed, amounting to 923.7 MW of capacity. Only three of these, representing 89.7 MW, are able to operate but are not yet generating energy. In May, three more wind farms were added to the system, totalling 53.4 MW, of which two are able to generate 41.4 MW.  In February, João Câmara II substation, which had encountered delays, started to operate. This contributed to the increase in wind capacity in operation. There are now 179 wind farms, totalling 4,433.7 MW of which 138 are in operation and grid-connected, (representing 3369.8 MW) and 41 wind farms in operation (representing 1,063.9 MW).

Workshop ABEEólica / PSR

The Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEEólica) organized, on 22 May, a workshop, in partnership with PSR (consultancy from the Brazilian energy sector), to address issues related to regulatory issues, such as accounting mechanisms of energy in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), penalties and systematic grid connection of the Auction of 6 June 2014.  Abound 60 members attended the event, which is much appreciated by ABEEólica.

Seminar Brasil+10: Thoughts About The National Energy Matrix

ABEEólica in partnership with Brasileiros Magazine organized a very important seminar “Brasil+10” - Thoughts About The National Energy Matrix. Just under 300 attendees participated at the event on 27 May. The Secretary of Energy Planning and Development of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Altino Ventura, gave the key note, along with speakers representing numerous energy technologies including wind energy, solar, biomass, hydro, nuclear, thermoelectric and coal.

Regulations for the A-3 e A-5 auctions

Two new regulations authorizing the implementation of new energy auctions in 2014 were released by the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy. Ordinance No. 34/2014, from 28 January 2014 established the Auction A-3 which will be held on 6 June 2014. This auction will enable the energy supply from wind energy from 2017 onwards. For this event, EPE – Energy Planning Company received 12.287 MW of wind energy projects.

Ordinance No. 169/2014, from 15 January 2014, established the Auction A-5 to be held on 9 December 2014. Superior to the other auction, the A-5 auction enables the energy supply from 2019 onwards for wind power. The period for registration of wind projects for this auction ended on 29 May 2014.
