A report from the latest India Wind Energy Outlook claims that the country is capable of generating an optimal output of 89 GW of capacity by 2020, but that potential is dependent on governmental backing.

The study makes the comparison with the current 18 GW wind power already in place in the subcontinent.

According to the report exploitation of that potential can come about if a comprehensive renewable energy law is drawn up, with a uniform system of tariffs and significant improvements to the country’s grid.
