In what could be termed as an effort on the part of the government to make India a wind power generation hub, soon the country will have offshore facilities to generate more wind power, says Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy.

Speaking at the ‘Wind Power India 2012′ conference held in Chennai, the MNRE minister said that it was time that India explored the option of setting up wind turbines in the sea. “Currently, India ranks World number 5 in wind power generation, and our plan is to become No 1. We are thinking that the time has come to go into the sea to generate more power from there also,” he said.
