50 GW IN 2005: GLOBAL WIND MARKET WILL DOUBLE TO A$25 BILLION PER YEAR BY 2010

Asia-Pacific partnership opportunity to accelerate wind energy deployment

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) today released a communiqué calling on the Australian Government to use the opportunity of the new Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate to further develop wind energy across the region.

"Globally the wind industry is a mainstream energy technology, which has now reached 50,000 megawatts (MW) of installation worldwide. This is more than the total installed capacity of all  the power in Australia. The industry employs around 100,000 people, and the value of global installations was worth A$13 billion last year alone, which will increase to A$25 billion by 2010" said Professor Arthouros Zervos, President of GWEC.
