INDIA: The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is working with the Indian authorities to develop a roadmap for the development of offshore wind in the country.
The project, which will focus on the states of Gujurat and Tamil Nadu, will be supported by a EUR 4 million grant from the European Union’s Indo-European Cooperation on Renewable Energy programme.
GWEC will work with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and state governments to look at the challenges and opportunities presented by offshore wind. The project will use resource mapping, policy guidance and the assessment of infrastructure improvements to create a 2032 roadmap,
“One of the goals of the project will be to learn as much as possible from the European experience to ensure that when India ventures offshore it does so in the most effective way possible,” GWEC said in a statement.
